The last few games have been a lot of the same. The Dolphins played better than expected, but made some crucial 4th quarter error and lost by three points. I didn’t do a post last week, not because I was mad about the Steelers Mudbowl, but because despite what seemed like an improved defense, it just felt like more of the same. That monotony was broken this week when the Dolphins lost a different way to the Jets. Suffice to say the game against the Jets could have gone better. I hate the Jets and I hate watching the Dolphins lose, so Sunday was a twofer for me. I started this site when the Dolphins lost to the Jets earlier this season and the Dolphins have now accounted for 67% of the Jets wins this year. In a game that was kind of like some bizarro Super Bowl where the winner (loser) gets the #1 draft pick, the Dolphins have showed that no one can play worse than them. All year when they showed clips of the 0-14 Bucs, I thought, “We’re not nearly that bad.”, but when the worst team in the league gets destroyed by the second worst team 40-13 at home, you have to accept the dirty truth. Maybe we are that bad. There were good moments, but mostly more bad ones. Dom Capers is using corner blitzes and getting better play out of Joey Porter but for every good thing, there are 50 bad. We lost Cameron Worrell for the season, making it our 4th safety to go down. Using cheerleaders as defensive backs has turned from a silly joke to a personnel reality, considering they are the only healthy people left on the field. A lot have been made of John Beck’s 5 turnovers. He had a really bad day, which all rookie QB’s have eventually. It’s way too soon to say terrible things about Beck, he’s only 3 games in, just an NFL baby. The problem is he is 26 and time is ticking. He is almost a full year older than Ben Roethlisberger, who has already won a Super Bowl.
Go Back in Time and Convince John Beck Never to be a Missionary

If we had a time machine that could go back to 2000 we could fix a lot of things wrong with this team, but one is to council a young Eagle Scout named John Beck on his future. From 2000-2002, John did Mormon missionary work over in Lisbon, Portugal which taught him to speak fluent Portuguese, appreciate what he’s been blessed with, and a sense of making a difference in the world. It did not however teach him to read a secondary or hold on to the ball when being sacked. I’m not sure what combination of strippers and cocaine it would take to turn him away from his religious service, but I’m sure Miami would gladly give up a huge amount of both to turn a 26 year old rookie to a 22 year old one. John seems like a nice kid, but that’s the problem. He’s 2 years older than me, so not exactly a kid. Thusfar, he seems like a fine QB, I just hope he learns the position before he’s in his 40s. I want to know what stuff you guys would change or advise the Fins on if you could go back to 2000. What would you say to new coach Dave Wannstedt? How would you advise a team who thought they had hit rock bottom after losing JJ and Marino after losing to the Jaguars 62-7 in the playoffs the prior year? Let me know.
